A malicious commenter on singer IU was sentenced to 8 months in prison and two years probation.
On June 21st, EDAM Entertainment made malicious commenter A‘s trial result public. Since 2019, A has left dozens of malicious comments on IU‘s posts via the internet.
“We worked with the investigative agency for a long time to arrest the perpetrator“, the agency stated. “We identified the perpetrator’s identity and explained all the crimes“.
The charges of contempt and online defamation against A were both accepted. The court determined that A‘s crime was extremely serious and sentenced him to 8 months in prison and 2 years of probation.
A was also given 180 hours of community service and 40 hours of sexual violence counseling. If A commits criminal acts again after the judgment, A may face harsher punishment.
Another malicious commenter will be prosecuted soon. “Unfounded false information and malicious posts (about IU) are constantly being posted on many anonymous communities“, the agency said.
“Currently, the perpetrator’s identity has been identified, and an investigation is underway,” the agency said. “We will do everything we can to avoid further harm. There are no concessions or agreements“.

Hello. This is EDAM Entertainment.
First and foremost, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the fans of EDAM Entertainment‘s IU and Shin Se Kyung.
We are doing our best to protect our artists’ rights and interests, as previously announced, by regularly taking legal action against malicious posts that harm their reputation, such as personal attacks and insults, spreading false information, malicious slander, and invasion of privacy.
As a result, we gathered evidence about the perpetrator, who has made dozens of malicious comments on IU’s posts via the Internet since 2019, as well as worked with the investigating agency for a long time to apprehend the perpetrator. We discovered the identity of the perpetrator and explained all of the crimes.
Following that, a subpoena investigation revealed all of the perpetrator’s crimes. The court determined that the nature of the perpetrator’s crime was extremely serious, and sentenced him to 8 months in prison and two years of probation. In addition, the perpetrator was ordered to perform 180 hours of community service and attend 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures. If the perpetrator continues to commit criminal acts after the judgment, he or she may face harsher punishment.
Furthermore, we have received email reports that slanderous false information and malicious rumors are being circulated in many anonymous communities, including DC Inside. For months, these harmful posts have been going on. As a result, we recognized the seriousness of the problem, filed a complaint with supporting evidence, and are currently conducting an investigation.
We will do everything we can to protect our artists’ rights and interests to prevent further harm, and we will respond more forcefully this time, with no leniency or agreement.
We will continue to gather, supplement, and monitor evidence of malicious posts, and if we discover any criminal acts that defame or infringe on our artists’ personal rights, we will make every effort to track down the perpetrators, no matter how long it takes.
EDAM Entertainment will pay attention to every single fan’s opinion and make every effort to ensure that the days we spend together are filled with laughter and, ultimately, countless joys. I appreciate it.
