IU’s Plagiarism Accuser Identified—Defamation Lawsuit Gains Momentum

EDAM Entertainment stated on December 21 KST that the police have recently found the anonymous person who first told them that singer IU plagiarized.

In early May of this year, this anonymous person told the police that IU had broken copyright rules six times.

The police dropped the case in August because it didn’t involve the original composers whose work was allegedly “plagiarized” or the real composers of the six IU songs that were allegedly involved in the “plagiarism.”

“Defame IU” was the word used by EDAM Entertainment to describe the case.

Back in September, EDAM Entertainment went ahead and sued the person in the Seoul Central District Court for slander.

Recently, about three months later, the police have found information about the person who first made the report. This information has been given to Shinwon Law Firm, which is IU‘s lawyer.

Since the case is still going on, EDAM Entertainment wouldn’t give out any more details. They did say, though, that the defamation lawsuit would go on until the person who made the original accusation faces the legal consequences of their actions.
