Concerns Mount as aespa’s Ningning Prepares for Waterbomb Festival Appearance
Seoul, June 6, 2023 – The upcoming participation of the popular girl group aespa in the highly anticipated Waterbomb Festival has stirred excitement among fans.
However, amidst the anticipation, concerns about member Ningning have started to surface within the fandom.
Organizers of the Waterbomb Seoul 2023 festival recently unveiled the event’s lineup, scheduled to take place from the 23rd to the 25th of this month at Seoul’s Jamsil Sports Complex Auxiliary Stadium.
The festival, known for its fusion of music and water-themed activities, promises a thrilling experience for attendees.
According to the announced lineup, the first day, the 23rd, will feature performances by notable artists such as StayC, Kwon Eun Bi, Zico, Woo Won-jae, Kooky, Ash Island, Swings, Sik-K, Haon, and BTOB. The following day, on the 24th, music enthusiasts can expect electrifying stages from Jay Park, Jessi, Kamo, Loco, Gray, Yugyeom, PH-1, Lillemor, Jeeolpuck, and Oh My Girl.
The final day of the festival, the 25th, holds great anticipation as popular acts Big Naughty, Simon Dominic, Lee Young-ji, DPR LIVE, HyunA, Bibi, and aespa are set to grace the stage. However, amid the excitement, concerns surrounding Ningning‘s well-being have surfaced.
The Waterbomb Festival has gained a reputation as the largest music and water-themed festival in Korea, featuring immersive performances amidst splashing water and enthusiastic audience members armed with water guns.
Ningning previously disclosed her eye health struggles during an interview with Vogue China in March, where she candidly revealed the challenges she faces.
Displaying eye drops that she carries with her, the talented artist explained that her right eye is almost blind due to a childhood surgery.
Chinese media reports indicate that Ningning suffers from a condition called Acanthamoeba keratitis.
Acanthamoeba keratitis is a rare eye condition caused by the infiltration of Acanthamoeba, a type of amoeba, into the cornea, resulting in inflammation.
The infection can be transmitted through various sources such as tap water, swimming pool water, river water, and seawater. If left untreated, it can lead to vision impairment, and in severe cases, even blindness.
Given Ningning‘s condition and her vulnerability to eye-related complications, fans have expressed worries about her participation in an event known for water-related activities.
Previous instances during Waterbomb Festival performances, where artists have endured discomfort from being hit by water guns, further fuel these concerns.
During a past event, (G)I-DLE‘s Jeon Soyeon pleaded with the audience, saying, “Please don’t aim for the eyes.”
