Netizens Think Something Fishy Up with SEVENTEEN’s Album Sales for ’17 is Right Here’

SEVENTEEN’s recent album ‘17 is Right Here’ has been smashing records on music charts, but some fans are scratching their heads over how the album could have sold a whopping 5 million copies.

The topic has been trending on community message board Pann, where one netizen shared an infographic of the sales and voiced their doubts about the numbers.

The netizen wrote, “With this kind of buzz, they should be topping the ‘Billboard 200,’ and they could be touring all around the world in stadiums. But it’s impossible to sell at this level only in Asia, and the only countries where physical albums are being sold are Korea and Japan. With just those 2 countries, it’s hard to believe they could sell 5 million copies with buzz alone. In the end, what drives physical sales are the US, Europe, and other Western markets, and you need to make waves over there as well. But they don’t seem to be getting any reaction in Western countries. So how is it that Seventeen can sell at the level of Taylor Swift? It’s hard to even spot Seventeen’s album on European charts in the UK, France, Germany, etc. If you look at other countries or even Japan, it’s strange for a group to sell this many copies. When you look domestically, it’s odd to have a group like Seventeen selling this much when they’ve never been at the hype level of EXO, BTS or Wanna One.”

Other netizens chimed in, saying things like, “I can agree with this. The moment HYBE’s acquisition news was out, they started jumping to 700K in first week sales, but they didn’t have a single hit. After that, they just kept climbing, which was suspicious,” “What you’re saying is offensive, but it’s true selling 5 million is a bit weird,” “You sound rude, but you’re also telling the truth,” and more.

Adding fuel to the fire, there have been reports that SEVENTEEN’s ‘17 is Right Here’ albums are being dumped on the streets of Shibuya, Japan.
