‘Queen of Tears’ battles copyright issues amidst illegal viewing in China

The Korean Wave, or Hallyu, continues to captivate global audiences with its compelling K-dramas. Among these, ‘Queen of Tears‘ has become a sensation. However, its soaring popularity has given rise to a new issue – illegal viewing in China.

Queen of Tears‘, available on platforms like Netflix, has won the hearts of many viewers in China. But this fame has brought along legal troubles, especially related to copyright infringement.

The drama has collected over 46,000 reviews on Douban, China’s leading content review platform, indicating clear copyright breaches, as reported by MK sports.

This rampant illegal streaming of Hallyu content in China underscores a significant copyright issue. Factors such as restricted access to official content in China, high subscription fees, and an insatiable appetite for content are reportedly fueling this problem.

In Korea, ‘Queen of Tears‘ has achieved impressive viewership, hitting a 21 percent rating for its 14th episode.

On Netflix, it has secured a spot in the top 10 non-English dramas, further emphasizing its global appeal. The drama, starring Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, is set to wrap up next week.
