IU’s ‘Love Wins’ Sparks Backlash from LGBT Community Anger Over Song Title

An official Instagram post from IU‘s firm, EDAM Entertainment, on January 16 showed a black-and-white poster of IU and V of BTS sitting down together.

At the top of the poster, the song title “LOVE WINS” was written in big letters. IU was shooting V with a camcorder.

LGBT people were very upset when the poster came out because it used the phrase “Love Wins,” which has been used as a slogan for LGBT pride parades and LGBT material.

People who are LGBT attacked IU, saying that this could make “Love Wins” less meaningful, which has been used to support the LGBT community.

A Twitter hashtag called “Love Wins” has been used by LGBT people since June 26, 2015, when same-sex marriage became legal in the US.

Later, it became a phrase that supported LGBT people, even after the 2016 shooting at a gay club in Orlando, USA. It has also been used as a rallying cry for pride events.

Concerning IU‘s new song, LGBT people are still complaining on social networks, stating things like “You must know that you cannot use the chant shouted in scenes of oppression and discrimination should not be written in this way” and “Don’t use the LGBT slogan freely as you wish”, among other things.

“It’s a little too early to criticize her because the song hasn’t been released yet,” “This phrase appears in the Bible,” “Why are you guys only protesting now when hundreds of songs with the same title have been released before?” and other things.

Also, IU‘s brand-new song “Love Wins” will come out at 6 p.m. on May 24.

This is her first new song in two years and one month, since December 2021, when she last came back.

Since “Concrete Utopia” director Uhm Tae-hwa directed the music video for “Love Wins” with IU and V from BTS, it got a lot of attention.
