While the show’s success is undeniable, the finale has left viewers with mixed feelings. Many felt that the episode glossed over the happy moments between the lead couple, Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun) and Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won), and zeroed in on Hae In’s eventual death.
Most fans breathed a sigh of relief that the show didn’t opt for a tragic ending, as was hinted at early on in the storyline with Hae In being a terminal patient.
The final scenes showed Hae In and Hyun Woo strolling with their daughter, which then transitioned to an older Hyun Woo visiting Hae In’s grave.
The tombstone revealed that Hae In passed away in 2074, suggesting that the couple enjoyed a long life together.
But the drama doesn’t end there! Online communities are buzzing with rumors that the show initially planned for a sadder ending, with Hae In passing away in 2034.
A leaked photo of Hae In’s original tombstone circulating online seems to back up this theory.
Speculations are rife that the drama team might have filmed two different endings and picked the happier one at the eleventh hour. Interestingly, it’s rumored that scriptwriter Park Ji Eun had a similar plan for her previous drama ‘Crash Landing on You.’
