IU, who has been praised by critics and viewers for her dramas “My Mister” and “Hotel Del Luna,” will challenge commercial films for the first time.
In the movie “Broker,” which is scheduled to be released in June, IU will transform into a mother, So Young, who abandoned her child in the “Baby Box” on a rainy day.
“Broker” depicts the story of brokers Sang Hyun (Song Kang Ho), Dong-soo (Kang Dong Won), and So Young, who are willing to find the right person to raise the baby.
Soyoung is a person who cannot easily guess what she is thinking because she did not reveal any reason why she left her baby in the baby box or why she came back.
IU expressed So Young in detail, from facial expressions to gestures to walking.
In particular, through her unique calm performance, she perfectly digested the multi-layered emotions of the character, which was also praised by “Japanese master” Hirokazu Koreeda.
In fact, coach Koreeda Hirokazu said, “I felt like I reached the ‘So-young’ I thought of at once. The fact that it was a line I wrote showed incredibly detailed expression,” he said, praising IU’s mature performance.
Known to contain in-depth messages and lingering emotions, “Broker” is an official invitation to the competition section of the 75th Cannes International Film Festival.
