“They are desperate” — YG Entertainment reportedly keeps hold of “G-Dragon” trademark amid Warner Music rumors

YG Entertainment has extended their trademark for ‘G-Dragon,’ securing its rights.

YG Entertainment applied to renew the trademark for ‘G-Dragon‘ in September. This trademark was first registered back in February 2003, and it had a 10-year validity. In February 2013, YG Entertainment extended it to September 13, 2023.

Unless any unexpected issues arise, YG Entertainment is set to keep the ‘G-Dragon‘ trademark for another ten years.

This development is significant since G-Dragon‘s contract with YG Entertainment expired in June, and there have been rumors about him discussing a new contract with Warner Music.

This means that the name ‘G-Dragon’ will remain with YG Entertainment, making it impossible for G-Dragon to use it if he signs with another company.

Lawyer and Yonsei University professor Park Soo Jo noted, “The renewal seems straightforward, but there’s a possibility that G-Dragon might contest and claim ownership, as seen in previous cases.”

The lawyer added, “On the other hand, if G-Dragon agrees to YG Entertainment’s terms, he can retain the trademark without any problems. This suggests a strong bond between G-Dragon and YG Entertainment or careful preparation by YG Entertainment to protect the trademark.”
