BTS Jin’s “Surprise Kiss” from Fan Charged with Sexual Assault

Fans who tried to kiss BTS member Jin have now been charged with sexual assault.

On the 14th, the Seoul Songpa Police Station received a complaint against fans who attempted to kiss Jin, accusing them of violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act.

Earlier that morning, a post titled “Fans Who Sexually Assaulted Jin at the Hug Event Have Been Reported to the Police” appeared on a BTS fan community.

The author, identified as A, expressed, “As a fan who enjoys BTS‘s music, I could not help but feel outraged,” and called for a thorough investigation and severe punishment for the fans involved under Article 11 of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, ‘Indecent Acts in Public Places.’

A added, “I reported the fans who assaulted Jin to the police for violating the Sexual Violence Punishment Act through the National Petition System,” and shared a screenshot of the complaint filed.

On the afternoon of the 13th, Jin hosted a ‘hug event’ with 1,000 fans at the BTS 11th debut anniversary celebration ‘2024 FESTA’ at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Songpa-gu, Seoul. Wearing a sign that read ‘Hug Me,’ Jin embraced fans one by one.

While most fans participated orderly, following the guidance of on-site staff, some attempted to kiss or whisper to Jin, causing outrage among the fans present. As a result, a fan decided to take legal action.

Under Article 11 of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act, a third party unrelated to the incident can also file a complaint. The complaint argues that the fans used the nature of the hug event, where Jin could not explicitly resist or avoid the situation, to cause sexual humiliation or disgust.

Jin was discharged on the 12th after completing his military service at the 5th Infantry Division’s Recruit Training Center in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province.
