• "I envied thin body types" — Red Velvet's Joy opens up about her past struggles with dieting

Red Velvet's Joy recently revealed that she once struggled with body image issues and diet trends, admitting she was a "trend-following girl" in her younger years.

During the April 11th episode of MBC’s Home Alone, Joy shared a candid look at her life, from her home to her diet habits. She was joined by fellow guests Park Na Rae, Jeon Hyun Moo, Go Seung Hwan, Key, and Cocoon.

Joy started the episode by talking about her new life as a fully independent woman. "I didn’t think I deserved to join Home Alone at first because I’ve always lived with my parents or in dorms. But now I’ve been independent for six months," she shared. She then gave a glimpse of her cozy home, revealing that she personally decorated every detail. "I chose the wallpaper, the curtain color, and even the ceiling fan," she said.

Despite her cozy interior, Joy’s home had a quirky mix of things, leading to some funny moments with the guests. Park Na Rae joked, "This looks like a café," while Jeon Hyun Moo remarked, "Is this really your house?" Joy responded with a laugh, saying, "I have a lot of things, but that’s after I reduced them."

When the conversation shifted to Joy’s diet, she opened up about her current health focus. "I’m following a blood sugar diet. I drink water with lemon juice in the morning, take probiotics, omega-3, and I eat olive oil," she explained.

While eating apples and peanut butter, Joy confessed, "I’m a bit of a trend-following girl. When I get interested in something, I follow all the trends the algorithms show me."

But it wasn't just trends that Joy followed—she also shared some personal struggles. In an honest interview, Joy admitted, "I’ve always envied thin body types. If I could be born again, I would want to have a thin body." She continued, "In my 20s, I was really conscious of others’ opinions. I pushed myself too hard, like I was punishing myself. I was really harsh, and that affected my health." She explained that after changing her mindset and focusing on her health for herself, both her physical and mental well-being improved.

Joy’s honesty about her journey and her growth was both refreshing and relatable to many fans who are also navigating similar struggles.

On April 15, the VIP premiere of the film Yadang took place at Megabox COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, and it quickly turned into a Poksak reunion.
