Actress Moon Ga Young opened up about her early acting career and the struggles she faced as a child star.
On the April 9th episode of You Quiz on the Block (also known as You Quiz), Moon Ga Young shared how she got started in the industry and why she felt disappointed during her childhood acting days.
Moon Ga Young, who is known for her roles in popular dramas, recalled her journey to acting during the special ‘Desperate Struggle’ episode. Yoo Jae Suk started the conversation by asking, "How old were you when you debuted, Ga Young?" She revealed, "I was born in Germany and moved to Korea when I was 10. That’s when I started acting."

Yoo Jae Suk was impressed, saying, "So this year marks your 20th anniversary since debut?" Jo Se Ho then asked, "Did you take a break and then return to acting?" Moon Ga Young quickly responded, "Actually, I never took a break. I’ve been working non-stop ever since."
Yoo Jae Suk went on to mention that Moon Ga Young was part of the golden era of child actors, with names like Park Eun Bin, Lee Se Young, and Yeo Jin Goo still actively working today. He asked her how it feels to be recognized by people who saw her as a child.
Moon Ga Young shared a touching memory about working with actress Ban Hyo Jung on the drama That Guy is a Black Dragon. She said, "We met again after 19 years. She remembered me from back then when I used to study in the car on my way to set and then head to the countryside after exams."

The conversation then turned to how she started acting. Moon Ga Young explained, "I was born in Germany, and at that time, there weren’t many East Asians. One day, I was street-cast while walking on the street for a children's clothing advertisement. I was about 5 or 6 years old. I liked the attention, and I even told my mom that I liked the sound of the camera shutter."
Yoo Jae Suk asked about her feelings after 20 years in the industry, especially regarding any anxiety or impatience. Moon Ga Young confessed, "I definitely did feel that way, especially when I was younger. Back then, being a child actor was essential if you wanted to start in a drama. Auditions were really competitive, and it was hard to stand out. One of the reasons people don’t remember my early roles is that I didn’t have any huge hits or memorable parts, and I felt upset about that."
Moon Ga Young’s honest reflections on her early struggles as a child actor will definitely resonate with fans who admire her career today.
