Big news is shaking up the K-entertainment world—Kakao Entertainment, home to top stars like IU and Yoo Jae Suk, might be up for sale!
On April 9, Kakao officially responded to the rumors, saying, “To improve the overall value of the Kakao group and help Kakao Entertainment continue to grow, we are reviewing various options with other shareholders. However, nothing has been decided yet.”
They added, “We will share more once something is confirmed, or within one month.”
Kakao currently owns about 66% of Kakao Entertainment, making it the largest shareholder.
Earlier reports claimed that Kakao had sent letters to major investors, including Anchor Equity Partners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), and Singapore’s GIC, saying they were open to selling.
Kakao Entertainment is estimated to be worth around 11 trillion KRW (about $8 billion USD), and the possible sale has fans and industry insiders wondering what could happen next.
Kakao Entertainment is a major player in the Korean entertainment world. It owns popular platforms like Melon, Kakao Webtoon, and Kakao Page. On top of that, it also manages several well-known entertainment labels such as:
- EDAM Entertainment – home to IU
- Antenna – home to Yoo Jae Suk and Yoo Hee Yeol
- Starship Entertainment – home to IVE
- BH Entertainment – home to Lee Byung Hun
With so many big names under one roof, fans are keeping a close eye on what comes next. While nothing is confirmed yet, the idea of Kakao Entertainment being sold is already sparking major buzz across the industry.
