WINNER’s Song Mino has admitted to leaving his assigned workplace while serving as a public service worker, sparking controversy over his alternative service.
On March 31, the National Police Agency held a press conference in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, where an official stated, “We have summoned the individual (Song Mino) three times for questioning, conducted a search and seizure, and reviewed communication records. Based on this, we will determine whether he is guilty.”
The official also confirmed, “(Song Mino) has largely admitted to leaving his worksite during duty hours.”
Song Mino started his alternative service on March 24, 2023, and was officially discharged on December 23, 2023.
However, just before his discharge, suspicions arose that he had frequently been absent from his assigned workplace. Due to these claims, the Military Manpower Administration requested an investigation.
The Seoul Mapo Police Station, which is handling the case, booked Song Mino for violating the Military Service Act and summoned him for questioning on January 23 and February 15. Initially, he denied the allegations, insisting that he had fulfilled his duties properly.
Now, police are wrapping up their investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the Mapo-gu community facility where he worked and collecting witness statements.
Depending on the findings, the Military Manpower Administration may cancel his discharge and require him to serve additional time to make up for the period in question.
