The family of the late singer and actress Sulli is demanding a statement from actor Kim Soo Hyun regarding her nude scene in the 2017 film Real. In response, director Lee Jung Sub has finally spoken out, revealing his long-held pain over the situation.
On March 28, Lee Jung Sub shared his thoughts on social media, writing, “Someone left a comment on my 2017 tweet about the director change for Real, and I realized this film is being talked about again because of a certain actor. Now that the movie is out, I can say this with confidence—what happened to that film was 0% my fault. Thank you. It has been painful for a long time.”
Sulli’s older brother, Mr. Choi, spoke through Kwon Young Chan, the head of the Korea Celebrity Suicide Prevention Association, revealing concerns about the filming process.

He stated, “At Sulli’s funeral in 2019, I heard something suspicious about the 2017 filming of Real, especially about her bed scene. The details were not widely known, so I can’t confirm the facts. However, I heard that there was a body double for her nude scene, but while people were told the double couldn’t come due to illness, the double was actually present at the filming site.”
He further questioned, “Since the people involved at the time are no longer here, it’s difficult to verify the truth. However, I would like to hear statements from Kim Soo Hyun’s side and the film’s then-director, Lee Sa Rang (also known as Lee Bero).”
Sulli starred alongside Kim Soo Hyun in Real, and her family has raised key concerns:
- The original script reportedly did not describe the bed scene in such explicit detail. What is Kim Soo Hyun’s stance on this?
- A body double was present on set, so why was Sulli persuaded to film the scene instead?
- It was claimed that the double was too sick to come, but witnesses later stated that the double was actually on set. What is the truth?
Real is a noir action film about two men involved in Asia’s largest casino. Originally directed by Lee Jung Sub, the production saw a major shift when the CEO of its production company, Lee Sa Rang—who is also Kim Soo Hyun’s relative—took over as director during post-production. At the time, it was explained that Lee Jung Sub stepped down due to creative differences.
Now, nearly eight years after the film’s release, Real has become a hot topic again due to controversy surrounding Kim Soo Hyun. Director Lee Jung Sub has publicly addressed the issue, even sharing posts criticizing the actor. He has also commented on allegations that Kim Soo Hyun dated the late Kim Sae Ron when she was underage, writing in one of his posts, “The same old strategy… it’s a trauma XX.”
Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun is facing serious accusations of dating Kim Sae Ron while she was a minor. The late actress’s family alleged on Garo Sero Research Institute (Gaseyeon) that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron were in a relationship from 2015—when she was only 16—until 2021. Initially, Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, denied the claims, calling them “completely false.” However, after photos of the two together surfaced, the agency changed its stance, stating they dated from 2019 to 2020, after Kim Sae Ron became an adult.
With the controversy surrounding Real and Kim Soo Hyun’s past relationships growing, many are waiting to see if the actor will respond to Sulli’s family’s demands.
