A video of actor Kim Soo Hyun talking about a lingerie mannequin and sending it to his ex-girlfriend, actress Kim Sae Ron, has caused a stir online.
Many are questioning if the content was appropriate, especially since Kim Sae Ron was only 19 years old at the time.
On March 27, Kim Sae Ron’s family revealed the video through the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute (Garo Sero Yeonguso), adding fuel to the ongoing controversy surrounding Kim Soo Hyun.
The video, reportedly filmed in Paris, shows Kim Soo Hyun standing in front of a lingerie store. He says, "I am standing in front of a lingerie store right now," while filming a mannequin dressed only in a bra and underwear.
He then comments, "This kind of body doesn’t exist in Korea. A body with these proportions, looking this stylish… How should we learn from this?" His words are now being criticized, with netizens questioning the intent behind the message.
A friend in the video points out a model photo behind the mannequin, saying, "It seems like an important part is showing." Kim Soo Hyun responds, "Let me check," before adding, "We have to protect the model," as he turns the camera away.
He also describes an interaction with a young girl who saw him filming, saying, "There was a father and daughter who just passed by. The little girl looked at us with such a shocked expression. I made eye contact with her, but I don’t feel embarrassed at all."
The video was reportedly filmed in late 2019, when Kim Sae Ron was 19 years old.
Kim Se Ui, head of Garo Sero Research Institute, commented, "We are only revealing the least problematic content," and added, "Is it normal for someone to film a video like this and send it to Kim Sae Ron?" He also hinted at more disturbing content, stating, "There are many things we are holding back for the sake of the family and Kim Sae Ron’s dignity."
Kim Soo Hyun is already facing accusations of dating Kim Sae Ron when she was still a middle school student in 2015. Additionally, he and his agency, Gold Medalist, are alleged to have pressured her into repaying a 700 million KRW (approx. 530,000 USD) debt.
Initially, Kim Soo Hyun denied ever dating Kim Sae Ron but later admitted, "We were in a relationship from 2019 to 2020, after she became an adult." However, on March 27, Kim Sae Ron’s family released a text message from Kim Soo Hyun sent to her in 2016, when she was in her first year of high school. The messages read, "Later, give me a real (kiss). Is that also not allowed?" and "I miss you."
