The final letter that the late actress Kim Sae Ron wrote to Kim Soo Hyun has been revealed, shedding light on her emotional struggles before her passing.
On March 27, Kim Se Ui, the head of the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute (Gaseyeon), disclosed the contents of Kim Sae Ron’s letter. This letter was previously mentioned by "A," a close friend of Kim Sae Ron, in an interview.
During the interview, "A" stated, "Because of her ex-boyfriend’s testimony and certain statements, her family is suffering so much. I was very close to Sae Ron, practically living at her house last year. I saw her mother constantly, and I want to clear up the family's pain and the unfairness Sae Ron faced."
"A" continued, "After receiving the first legal notice, Sae Ron sent a message to Kim Soo Hyun. I wasn't aware of the second one, but after that, we went to Seoul Forest in Seongsu-dong, where she wrote a letter. She wanted to personally deliver it to Kim Soo Hyun since he lived nearby, but she was worried because she couldn’t get inside his apartment. Even if she left it there, someone else might find it."
The letter, revealed by Kim Se Ui, read:
"Oppa, do you really hate me that much? I truly wish for your happiness."'
She continued, "We were together for five to six years. You were my first and last love. Seeing you avoid me and act like I don’t exist makes me feel so empty and hopeless. If even this letter doesn’t reach you, then our relationship is truly over forever, and that makes me really sad. I won’t interfere in your life anymore, so please don’t hate me. If you read this letter, please reply. I feel terrified and uncomfortable because of the people at Gold Medalist. I hope you, not Rove, read this letter. I’ll continue to support your work and relationships, wishing for your happiness. I also hope our time together won’t be remembered in a bad way."
Kim Se Ui then commented, "She tried to endure everything alone until the end."
He also criticized Kim Soo Hyun, saying, "He shamelessly acted like he didn’t know anything, denying their relationship at first. He even threatened legal action, but when evidence surfaced, he admitted they dated after she became an adult. In the end, she couldn’t even deliver the letter. She left in tears because she couldn’t enter the building."
Meanwhile, Kim Sae Ron’s family recently claimed through Garo Sero Research Institute that she had dated Kim Soo Hyun for six years, from 2015 to 2021, starting when she was 15 years old. They also alleged that his agency, Gold Medalist, pressured her by sending a legal notice demanding 700 million KRW in damages.
Kim Sae Ron, who had been taking time for self-reflection and working at a café to make ends meet, reportedly sent Kim Soo Hyun a message after receiving the legal notice, pleading, "I’ll gradually pay you back from each project I take on. I’m not saying I won’t pay, but I just can’t come up with 700 million KRW all at once. Please, let me live. I beg you, give me some time." However, Kim Soo Hyun did not respond.
Gold Medalist, which initially denied the dating rumors, later stated, "Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron dated from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, after she became an adult. The claim that he dated her when she was a minor is false."
On the 27th, Bu Ji Seok, a lawyer from the law firm Buyu representing Kim Sae Ron’s family, held a press conference, stating, "Kim Sae Ron’s private life is being exposed every day. The baseless rumors and harsh criticism toward her family have caused them serious distress. We are holding this press conference in hopes that the public will stop blaming them." The legal team also announced that they would be releasing evidence photos and taking legal action.
