NewJeans has announced that they will be suspending their activities as "NJZ" following a court ruling.
On March 23, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein took the stage at ComplexCon in Hong Kong’s AsiaWorld-Expo. As the show came to an end, the members made an unexpected and emotional announcement.
"This stage holds great meaning for us, and all of you who came here give us immense strength," they shared. "It is with a heavy heart that we share this news. Today’s stage may be our last performance for a while. In respect of the court’s decision, we have decided to suspend all activities."
They continued, "This wasn’t an easy decision, but we will gather our strength and keep moving forward. Please know that this is not the end."
They added, "We will definitely return, and when we do, we want to meet you all with bright smiles. Thank you so much, and we love you. The five of us will always be thinking of Bunnies, so please eat well, sleep well, and live happily."
Last November, Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein unilaterally terminated their contracts with ADOR and began independent activities. They later introduced "NJZ" as their new team name through social media.
However, ADOR took legal action, filing a lawsuit with the Seoul Central District Court to confirm the validity of their contracts. On March 21, the court ruled in favor of ADOR, granting an injunction that recognized ADOR’s legal status as NewJeans' official agency.
After the ruling, ADOR released a statement: "We sincerely thank the court for its wise judgment. Now that ADOR's legal status as NewJeans' agency has been confirmed, we will take full responsibility for supporting the artists."
They added, "We will also ensure that this weekend’s ComplexCon performance is held under the name of NewJeans, with ADOR providing full support on-site. We hope to meet with the artists soon for an open and sincere conversation. We kindly ask for your warm support and encouragement as NewJeans continues to grow with ADOR."
As of now, fans are left wondering what’s next for NewJeans, but the members have assured Bunnies that this is not the end.
