IU recently opened up about her emotional connection to the characters Aesun and Geumyeong in the Netflix original series When Life Gives You Tangerines.
On March 22, IU appeared in a video on her YouTube channel 이지금 alongside Park Bo Gum.
During their conversation, Park Bo Gum asked, “Between Aesun and Geumyeong, which character do you feel more attached to and want to comfort?” Without hesitation, IU responded, “Definitely Aesun.”
She explained, “Since I play both Aesun and Geumyeong, I understand Geumyeong just as much. But when Geumyeong speaks harshly, it feels like I’m saying those words to myself, and that hurts.”
IU continued, “Aesun experienced so many sad things from a young age. She struggled at school and lived through a difficult era. That’s why I naturally feel more drawn to her.”
Meanwhile, IU has been receiving widespread praise for her role as Aesun, portraying the character from her teenage years to her 30s. Veteran actress Moon So Ri takes over the role from Aesun’s 40s onward.
