• Late Kim Sae Ron’s family speaks out on her past with Kim Soo Hyun: "Do you think we liked him just because he had money?"

The aunt of the late Kim Sae Ron has broken her silence on the actress’s past relationship with Kim Soo Hyun, denying that the family approved of it.

On March 17, YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute released a video featuring a phone interview with Kim Sae Ron’s aunt, known as “A.” The video, titled "Kim Sae Ron’s Aunt: 'Who Helped, If Not Garo Sero?'" addressed growing speculation about the late actress’s relationship with Kim Soo Hyun.

According to Kwon Young Chan, head of the Korea Celebrity Suicide Prevention Association, “A was like a real mother to Kim Sae Ron. She confided in her because she didn’t want to burden her parents.”

During the interview, Kim Se Ui, the head of Garo Sero, asked, “If Kim Sae Ron was dating Kim Soo Hyun when she was in middle school, shouldn’t the family have stopped it? What were they doing?”

A firmly denied that the family turned a blind eye, saying, “Of course, we didn’t know at first. Celebrities meet on set and stay in contact. But before he enlisted, he kept sending her military photos and messages, and that’s when we felt something was off. We strongly opposed it.”

Kim Se Ui then claimed, “This is why people see it as a crime. An adult gaslighting a minor until she gave in. Kim Soo Hyun kept approaching her, even though she wasn’t interested at first.”

A confirmed, “She told her parents about it. Not like, ‘Mom, I’m dating someone,’ but more like, ‘Why is he sending me personal photos?’ Once we found out, we told him to stop, but he insisted, ‘This is real.’ Even when she was preparing to move to his company, he promised to take care of everything. He acted like he was taking responsibility.”

A also revealed, “They even talked about marriage. But that was after she became an adult.”

She added, “I don’t want to talk about this anymore. If people want to know who’s right and wrong, let’s leave it to the law. People ask why her parents didn’t oppose it—of course, they did! Do you think we liked him just because he was rich and famous? There was over a 10-year age gap. Who do you think had more to lose?”

Meanwhile, on March 10, Kim Sae Ron’s family claimed through Garo Sero that she had been in a relationship with Kim Soo Hyun for six years, from when she was 15 until she turned 21 (2015–2021). They even released photos of Kim Soo Hyun kissing her on the cheek and a handwritten letter he allegedly sent from the military.

At first, Kim Soo Hyun’s agency Gold Medalist denied the claims, calling them “completely untrue” and threatening legal action. However, on March 14, they changed their stance, saying, Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron were in a relationship from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, after she became an adult.” They firmly denied any involvement before that.

On March 17, Kim Sae Ron’s family filed a defamation lawsuit against entertainment YouTuber Lee Jin Ho for spreading false information. They also announced plans to take legal action against Kim Soo Hyun’s agency.
