• Sunye Finally Reveals Why Wonder Girls Disbanded

Former Wonder Girls leader Sunye opened up about the group’s past, revealing secrets about their dating ban, rivalry with Girls’ Generation, and even a possible reunion!

On March 12, Sunye appeared on MBC’s Radio Star, marking her return to the show after three years. She shared that she officially moved back to Korea after years in Canada and is now managing her own career without a personal manager.

Sunye reflected on Wonder Girls’ journey, especially their rivalry with Girls’ Generation. She admitted,

"It would be a lie to say there was no pressure. I was always envious of Girls' Generation. They had a pretty and stylish concept, whereas we had to perform retro songs that even we couldn’t fully relate to."

She also talked about working with BIGBANG, saying,

"We often met at year-end award shows, but both groups were so shy that we never got close. Since I was the oldest, I felt like a school prefect, thinking, ‘No one should mess with my members.’"

One of the biggest revelations was about the group's strict dating ban. Sunye shared that the members felt like they had to avoid all dating rumors at all costs.

Even when performing with BIGBANG, the boys would ask permission before touching their hands during choreography.

"We wanted to get closer to them, but conversations always got cut off. We had no real connections."

Fans have long wondered if Wonder Girls would ever reunite. Sunye addressed the possibility, saying:

"It’s not that none of the members are interested—we're just waiting for the right timing. If the opportunity comes, we might come together again."

Wonder Girls made history with hits like “Tell Me” and “Nobody”, but their journey was cut short in 2013 when Sunye announced her marriage to a Korean-Canadian missionary. Soon after, she revealed her pregnancy, leading to her leaving the group in 2015.

Many fans felt betrayed, arguing that Sunye’s decision hurt the group’s future. Others defended her, saying she simply wanted to build her own family.

Sunye later faced backlash when she returned to the industry, with some accusing her of only coming back for financial reasons. She addressed these rumors, saying:

"I became the biggest traitor after getting married."

While some fans are excited about the possibility of a Wonder Girls reunion, others believe Sunye should stop bringing up the group’s past.

They argue that her personal choices ultimately put an end to the group’s golden era.

What do you think? Would you want to see a Wonder Girls comeback, or should the past stay in the past?
