Actor Kim Soo Hyun is facing major trouble in the advertising industry after being linked to the controversy surrounding the late actress Kim Sae Ron.
As he remains silent, big brands are cutting ties with him, and if the situation gets worse, he could be hit with massive contract penalties worth over 20 billion KRW (approx. $15 million USD).
According to reports on March 12, Kim Soo Hyun is currently the face of 16 brands, including Eider, Homeplus, Shinhan Bank, Prada, Jo Malone London, and Tous Les Jours. But with his private life under scrutiny, companies are taking action:

K2 Korea & Shabu All Day – Deleted all images of Kim Soo Hyun from their official pages.
Dinto – Suspended all scheduled activities with him. The brand’s CEO shared, "Our team is verifying the facts and discussing our response."
Tous Les Jours (CJ Foodville) – Reportedly not renewing his contract after it expires this month.

Kim Soo Hyun is one of the highest-paid advertisement models, especially in China and Southeast Asia.
His model fees have been around 1 billion KRW per year, and in his prime, he made over 50 billion KRW annually from ads alone.
But with brands dropping him, there’s a huge financial risk. Industry insiders say that if a model causes public controversy, companies can demand a penalty of 2-3 times their contract fee. With his estimated annual model fee at 500 million KRW per brand, that means:

16 contracts x 500 million KRW = 8 billion KRW
If penalties are tripled → 24 billion KRW ($18 million USD) in losses!
Many celebrities have faced huge lawsuits over scandals in the past:
Lee Soo Geun (illegal gambling case) – Sued for 2 billion KRW, ordered to pay 700 million KRW.
T-ara (bullying scandal) – Their agency paid 400 million KRW in penalties.
Kim Min Hee (affair scandal) – Reportedly paid hundreds of millions to a cosmetics brand.
With these cases in mind, Kim Soo Hyun’s financial fallout could be massive.
The controversy exploded after Kim Sae Ron’s family alleged that she had a relationship with Kim Soo Hyun dating back to 2015, when she was still a minor. They released handwritten letters supposedly from him during his military service in 2018, along with photos showing them being affectionate.
South Korean law states that sexual relations with a minor under 16 is statutory rape, but in 2015, the legal age limit was 13. This means that even if a relationship happened, it wouldn’t have been illegal at the time.
Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, has completely denied the rumors, calling them "false and unacceptable." They also stated:
"We are reviewing the strongest possible legal actions against those spreading false information."
As brands distance themselves and legal threats loom, will Kim Soo Hyun finally break his silence? Or will more shocking claims surface? Stay tuned for updates!
