Ryu Jun Yeol and Han So Hee’s dating scandal cancelled the movie ‘Hypnosis’ — but now it’s coming back as a 45 billion won drama starring Suzy and Kim Seon Ho
What was once a canceled movie has now turned into a massive drama project—and fans are more excited than ever!
Disney+ has officially brought Hypnosis back to life, but this time, it’s not just a film—it’s a big-budget series worth 45 billion won (around 33 million USD). The original movie version got scrapped last year, and now we know why: the real-life dating drama between Ryu Jun Yeol and Han So Hee.
Hypnosis is based on a webtoon that ran from 2019 to 2020. It’s a fantasy mystery period drama set in 1935 Gyeongseong and 1800s Shanghai.
The story follows a mysterious vampire woman named Song Jeong Hwa (played by Suzy) and a painter Yoon Yi Ho (played by Kim Seon Ho) who’s asked to paint her portrait. As they spend time together, creepy rumors from her past slowly unfold.
With scenes set overseas and heavy CGI required, the production needed a huge budget. That’s where the 45 billion won investment from Disney+ comes in. Fans are already buzzing as the cast and concept were officially revealed.
But let’s rewind. Hypnosis was actually planned as a movie last year, with Ryu Jun Yeol and Han So Hee expected to star.
At the time, Han So Hee even shared, “I heard we might work together on a project, so I visited his photo exhibition to say hello.” That project was Hypnosis.
However, once news broke about their relationship—and Hyeri, Ryu Jun Yeol’s ex-girlfriend, posted the now-viral one-word reaction “Interesting”—the drama behind the scenes got way too real. The love triangle rumors, public backlash, and talk of a “rebound” relationship caused major controversy.
Just two weeks after going public, Ryu Jun Yeol and Han So Hee broke up. And the movie version of Hypnosis? It was quietly canceled.
At the time, Ryu Jun Yeol’s agency C-JeS Studio explained, “Hypnosis was only in early discussion stages. To avoid causing problems for the project, we decided to step down.”
Fast forward to now—and Hypnosis is back, bigger and better. Suzy and Kim Seon Ho will lead the drama instead. It’s also a reunion for the two, who last acted together in the hit 2020 drama Start-Up.
Fans are beyond excited to see Suzy transform into a vampire and to watch her chemistry with Kim Seon Ho.
With the drama's spooky vibe, rich history setting, and a story full of mystery and secrets, Hypnosis is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about K-dramas yet.
