  • Park Han Byul Breaks Down in Tears as She Apologizes for Her Husband's 'Burning Sun' Scandal and Reveals Her Painful Six-Year Struggle: "It felt like hell"

Actress Park Han Byul has broken her silence and apologized for her husband's involvement in the ‘Burning Sun scandal.’

On the March 25 episode of TV CHOSUN’s Daddy and Me, a preview showed Park Han Byul opening up about the difficult past six years. She has stayed away from the entertainment industry ever since her husband, Yoo Mo, a former CEO of Yuri Holdings, was linked to the scandal.

In the preview, Park Han Byul introduced herself, saying, “It’s been six years since I appeared on TV.” She then bowed her head and sincerely apologized, saying, “It was something that deserved an apology. I am truly sorry.”

Her last drama was Love in Sadness in 2019. After that, she stepped away from the industry, only recently signing an exclusive contract with Chan Entertainment to prepare for a comeback.

Talking about her long hiatus, she explained, “It was my husband’s issue, but I felt responsible as his wife, so I decided to take a break.”

She continued, “Each day felt like hell. I cut myself off from the world and didn’t contact anyone.”

Her father, who appeared with her on the show, said, “Six years may seem like just a number, but it felt like escaping from a long tunnel. I didn’t ask her too much because I didn’t want to cause her more pain.”

Park Han Byul also revealed her struggles, saying, “I developed social anxiety. Even if I went several days without sleep, I didn’t feel tired. I lost my appetite, and even when I drank alcohol, I didn’t get drunk. I even had extreme thoughts like, ‘Should I jump from a high place?’”

Hearing her own words, she broke down in tears and simply said, “I just feel sorry.”

Park Han Byul married Yoo Mo in 2017, but in 2019, it was revealed that he was involved in the ‘Burning Sun scandal.’ He was accused of arranging prostitution services for foreign investors between 2015 and 2016 and was tried alongside former BIGBANG member Seungri. He was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison, suspended for three years.

At the time, Park Han Byul publicly apologized, saying, “I also feel a sense of responsibility for everything. No matter the outcome, I will accept this situation and do my best to guide my family onto the right path. As a mother and wife, I will strive to live a life I am not ashamed of.”

Reports later revealed that she personally wrote and submitted a petition for her husband, stating, “My husband has no intention of avoiding responsibility. As his wife, I promise that he will continue to fully cooperate with the investigation while remaining out of custody.” She also emphasized that he had attended more than ten police interrogations and that he was the father of a young child.
