Kwon Sang Woo’s latest movie Hitman 2 has officially taken over the box office, leaving Dark Nuns behind!
According to the Korean Film Council’s report on the 28th, Hitman 2 brought in 189,784 viewers in just one day, securing the number one spot at the box office. Since its release on January 22, the movie has now gathered a total of 794,671 viewers.
The film, directed by Choi Won Seop, tells the hilarious and action-packed story of "Joon" (played by Kwon Sang Woo), a former star webtoon artist who hit rock bottom and became known as a “failed artist.” Things take a wild turn when a terrorist group mimics his new webtoon plot, framing him as the mastermind. With chaos and comedy all rolled into one, fans are flocking to theaters to see the fun unfold.

However, not everyone believed in Hitman 2 at first. A popular YouTuber criticized the movie harshly, saying, "Why did they even make a sequel? It’s outdated and not funny at all. I didn’t laugh even once. It was too boring for a comedy.” But Kwon Sang Woo wasn’t fazed by the negativity. He confidently replied on his own YouTube account, “Let’s see the final score,” grabbing everyone’s attention with his bold response.
Meanwhile, Song Hye Kyo and Jeon Yeo Bin’s movie The Black Nuns landed in second place, with 162,448 viewers on the same day and a total of 768,603 viewers since its release. Both movies are competing fiercely during the Lunar New Year holiday season, attracting huge crowds to theaters.
Other films making waves include Secret That Cannot Be Told in third place with 50,389 viewers and Harbin in fourth, pulling in 27,105 viewers. Notably, Harbin has already achieved a massive total of 4,669,186 viewers overall. Family-friendly picks like Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew and indie films like Substance are also part of the top rankings.
On the 28th alone, an impressive total of 515,116 people visited theaters, proving that Korean cinema is thriving during the festive season! Fans are excited to see how this box office battle plays out in the coming days.
