Actress Goo Hye Sun is not backing down from the debates surrounding her style and beliefs!
On January 18, Goo Hye Sun took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the ongoing controversies she’s been facing. In a heartfelt post, she wrote:
"It’s 2 a.m. and I’m writing this during an all-nighter, capturing my raw feelings. An actress who doesn’t wear dresses, loves art, has short hair, supports feminism, and now even a debate over wearing a hat? I still believe that the decision to accept or reject all the ‘opinions’ and ‘disputes’ about me is mine alone."
She added:
"In that sense, I am ‘freedom.’ I truly appreciate those who offer me encouragement, advice, and support. I know my way of life may not be for everyone, but I also know I have to live true to myself. So, I welcome any absurd debates that may come my way, and I ask for your understanding."
Wrapping up her message, Goo Hye Sun said:
"I hope meaningful things will come out of these discussions, so here’s a cherished photo of me wearing a KBO Korean Series hat to end this post." Along with her message, she shared a smiley photo of herself wearing a hat.
This statement comes after the recent controversy sparked by her appearance on MBC's Radio Star on January 15. During the show, Goo Hye Sun wore a hat and explained:
"I was getting ready to shower, but my boiler broke, so I couldn’t wash my hair. That’s why I wore a hat."
She also shared that the producer had tried to convince her not to wear it on air, saying: “The producer suggested it would be better to film without the hat, but I couldn’t take it off at the time.” This led to some criticism about her attitude, but Goo Hye Sun firmly stood her ground, declaring: “Wearing a hat is my freedom.”
This isn’t the first time Goo Hye Sun has faced controversy. In 2021, during the backlash against archer An San’s short haircut, Goo Hye Sun took to social media to defend feminism, writing:
"I am a woman born of both a man and a woman, and I am also a woman who loves men. As a fellow woman, I cannot stand by and watch feminism be distorted into a hateful term or isolated through subjective interpretations of societal positions. Feminists are people who reject the socially imposed traditional identity of women and move toward realizing their independent identity as human beings."
In addition to all of this, Goo Hye Sun recently graduated from Sungkyunkwan University after 13 years and is now working towards a master’s degree at KAIST.
It’s clear that Goo Hye Sun is living life on her own terms, and fans are eagerly watching to see what she does next.
