Actress Song Hye Kyo revealed a fascinating story about winning a "No Makeup School Uniform Contest" when she was just 17!
On the January 8 episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, Song Hye Kyo opened up about her younger days and reflected on her incredible journey in the industry.
Host Yoo Jae Suk described her as a bold and down-to-earth person, to which Song Hye Kyo responded with a smile, "When I was younger, people often said I was bold. In my 20s and 30s, I had a strong personality, always taking the lead and saying, ‘Let’s do it this way.’ But now, I’ve changed. These days, I don’t take the lead anymore. My mom used to tell me, ‘If you just stay quiet, you can at least come in second.’ She was right," she shared, laughing.
Song Hye Kyo also admitted, "I’ve always been straightforward, which sometimes led to arguments. If I felt I went too far, I would apologize. I’m an INFJ, but my friends think I’m more of a T."
As Song Hye Kyo enters her 28th year in the industry, she expressed her amazement at her own longevity. Yoo Jae Suk noted, "You’ve been a star since your debut and still are today."
Talking about her breakthrough role in Autumn in My Heart, she said, "The response to that drama was amazing." She also shared her birth dream, adding a fun personal touch: "My mom dreamt of a deer with ruby antlers, which is why my dog is named Ruby."
One of the most memorable moments of her career was her unexpected win in a school uniform contest. "A magazine ad caught my friend’s eye, and we sent in a random picnic photo because I didn’t even have profile pictures," Song Hye Kyo revealed. "I didn’t think I’d get in, but they called my house. Other contestants came fully prepared, but I borrowed a uniform from an older friend. I didn’t even know we needed makeup—I just washed my hair and went. To my surprise, I won the grand prize!"
Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho couldn’t hide their amazement, joking, "Some people are just meant to shine. Turns out, makeup wasn’t the key!" Their playful reaction had the audience laughing along.
Song Hye Kyo’s story is a true testament to natural beauty, confidence, and destiny.
