• 'Squid Game 2' Falls Short at the Golden Globes, Lee Jung Jae and Director Hwang Dong Hyuk Return Empty-Handed

Fans of Squid Game were left disappointed as Season 2 failed to bring home an award at the 82nd Golden Globes. Despite the hype, the Netflix hit walked away empty-handed for the second time after missing out on the same award with Season 1 in 2022.

The Golden Globes ceremony took place on January 5 in Los Angeles (January 6 in Korea), where Squid Game 2 was nominated for Best Television Series – Drama.

The show faced tough competition from major titles like Shogun, which had swept 18 Emmy Awards last year, Netflix’s The Diplomat, Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Peacock’s The Day of the Jackal.

Ultimately, the award went to Shogun, leaving Squid Game 2 without a win. Both Lee Jung Jae, the series' lead actor, and director Hwang Dong Hyuk attended the event but returned without trophies.

Even before its release, Squid Game 2 created a buzz by earning the Golden Globe nomination. Director Hwang Dong Hyuk shared his gratitude at the time, saying:

"I’m so thankful that an unreleased work has been nominated for such a prestigious award. We worked hard to ensure fans of Season 1 won’t be disappointed. Season 2 keeps the same social message as the first, and I hope viewers will reflect on its connection to today’s world."

Released on December 26, Squid Game 2 instantly became a global sensation. In its first week, the show recorded an incredible 500 million hours of viewership worldwide, topping Netflix charts.

While Season 2 couldn’t secure a Golden Globe, Season 1 made history in 2022. It was nominated for three awards: Best Television Series – Drama, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor, with Oh Young Soo winning Best Supporting Actor.

Season 2 follows the intense battle between Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) and the Frontman (Lee Byung Hun), digging deeper into the mysterious games. Fans can already look forward to Squid Game Season 3, expected to drop in the first half of this year!

  • Kwon Min Ah worries fans with emotional post about fear and self-blame: “Everything feels scary, I need to get it together”

Former AOA member Kwon Min Ah—who opened up in the past about being bullied—has once again shared a deep and emotional message on social media, leaving fans feeling concerned and sending love.

On April 23, Min Ah took to her Instagram to write:
“I don’t know if I’ve become completely twisted, or if I’m just scared. Maybe I’m afraid the same thing will happen again. Everything feels scary. And I want to say something sharp to myself too—get it together.”

Along with the message, she posted a selfie where she wore a red knit top, had her hair half-up, and showed a soft pout with a calm expression. Though her outfit and style looked casual, the mood of her words felt heavy.

Fans aren’t sure if Min Ah was directing the message toward someone else or simply speaking to herself. The final line, “get it together,” sounds like a tough love reminder to herself—but also makes many wonder what she’s been going through recently.

People quickly filled the comment section with supportive messages, telling her to stay strong and reminding her she’s not alone.

Min Ah debuted with AOA in 2012 and left the group in 2019. In 2020, she made headlines when she revealed that she had been bullied during her time in the group. The confession caused a huge reaction in the K-pop world, leading to conversations about idols’ mental health and group dynamics.

Recently, she surprised fans when it was revealed she began working as a manager at a dermatology clinic, showing a new side of her life outside of the entertainment spotlight.

Fans continue to cheer her on, hoping she finds peace and happiness in whatever path she chooses next.
