• "Disrespectful to the Elderly?" MBC's 'Today N' PD Sparks Backlash for Rude Behavior During Episode

MBC's Today N is facing major backlash after a recent episode raised eyebrows over the rude behavior of its PD (producer) toward an elderly man featured on the show.

On the January 1st episode of Today N, the program showcased an elderly man who had returned to his hometown in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, after working in the real estate business in Gyeongju. He proudly introduced three homes he had built, including a yellow earth room, a music room, and even shared his homemade oyster mushrooms.

However, viewers were quick to point out the problematic attitude of the PD filming the segment. When the elderly man explained that many people visit his yellow earth room for treatments, the PD casually responded, "I don’t go, I’m not at the age for that yet," seemingly dismissing the elderly man's words. Later, when the man shared his love for playing the drums, the PD bluntly joked, "You could just do some farming."

The tone of the PD’s responses didn’t improve as the segment continued. When the elderly man showed off his oyster mushrooms, the PD downplayed their uniqueness by saying, "They have them in Seoul markets," and when the man offered grilled chicken, the PD joked, "I only like chicken when it's fried." The PD then ate the grilled chicken and lay in the yellow earth room, showing a more satisfied expression, but viewers were still disturbed by his earlier remarks.

Many Today N viewers took to the program’s online board, criticizing the PD's behavior. Comments like, "The PD is rude and has no manners," and "I can’t believe this aired – it’s uncomfortable to watch someone be so disrespectful on a broadcast" flooded the site. One viewer even said, "The PD's attitude toward the elderly is completely disrespectful," questioning if it was okay to treat an older person that way just because he lived in a mountain village and built his own home.

Another shocked viewer added, "It was shocking to see how sarcastic and disrespectful the PD was to the elderly man, and it’s even more shocking that they didn’t edit it out before airing."

Today N is a popular sister program to Live Broadcast Today Morning, known for its lively segments covering a wide range of topics, from culture to food and social issues. However, this controversial moment has certainly left viewers questioning the tone and manners of its production team.

  • Song Kang Ho Reveals Shocking Reason He Rejected "Joint Security Area" Role at First — Find Out Why He Changed His Mind

Actor Song Kang Ho shocked fans by revealing the surprising reason he initially turned down the iconic role in Joint Security Area (JSA).

On February 4, the movie JSA was celebrated as a "Visionary" work at a special GV (Guest Visit) event for CJ ENM’s 30th anniversary at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul. The event was attended by director Park Chan-wook and stars like Song Kang Ho, Lee Byung Hun, Lee Young Ae, Kim Tae Woo, and Ko Kyung Beom, who shared stories from the making of the film.

Joint Security Area, a groundbreaking film by director Park Chan-wook, tells the story of North and South Korean soldiers caught in a tragic incident at the border, highlighting the human side of the divided nations. The film has been widely praised for changing the perception of inter-Korean relations and is seen as a key moment in Korean cinema.

During the event, Song Kang Ho admitted that he turned down the JSA script at first, saying, "The script was just too perfect. It was so well-written and tightly woven that I couldn’t believe it. I thought, ‘Is this really Korean cinema at this level?’ I felt it was too good, and I figured the movie wouldn’t live up to the script."

He also mentioned that at the time, Park Chan-wook’s previous films hadn’t done well, which made him even more doubtful. "But after meeting the director, I started to trust him," Song Kang Ho added.

Reflecting on the film 20 years later, Song Kang Ho joked, "I was flipping through channels and watched JSA again. I thought, ‘There was a time when I wasn’t envious of Lee Byung Hun,’ but he looked so handsome and cool back then." He continued, laughing, "One thing about Park Chan-wook's films is that they have a depth and elegance that you just can’t forget. It’s probably why his new movie is called I Can’t Help It."

Song Kang Ho also spoke fondly of reuniting with his JSA co-stars after 25 years. He shared, "We didn’t watch the film together, but we had a cozy two-hour dinner. After all this time, it felt nostalgic. It was heartwarming to sit together again and reminisce about the past. It really made me realize how meaningful these moments are."
