• IU Wins Legal Battle, But Justice Seems Far Away, Why Getting Compensation May Be Impossible?

Singer and actress IU recently won a lawsuit against a person who falsely accused her of plagiarism. But even though the court ruled in her favor, getting compensation from the perpetrator has turned out to be a huge challenge. Here's everything we know about why IU's legal fight isn't over yet.

On December 18, the Seoul Central District Court's Civil Division 29 ruled that IU should receive about 30 million KRW in damages after suing "A" for false claims of copyright infringement. This decision came after "A" accused IU of plagiarizing six songs, including Good Day, Pink Shoes, and BBI BBI. However, the accusations were dismissed as groundless by the police in August 2023, and IU filed her own lawsuit the following month.

But there’s a major issue — "A" is nowhere to be found. Reports reveal that "A" is likely living in the U.S. and has ignored every legal notice so far. They didn’t show up for the court hearings or even hire a lawyer to represent them. Because of this, the court made its ruling based only on IU's side of the case.

IU's legal team has tried everything to locate "A" so they can enforce the court’s decision. The team even asked the court to make a public announcement about the case, which allows them to proceed without directly notifying the defendant. However, this process hasn't helped track down "A," leaving IU's hard-earned legal win in limbo.

A legal expert explained to Star News: “While the court acknowledged IU's right to damages, enforcement procedures are now necessary. If the defendant refuses to pay, IU's team will need to take further steps, like seizing assets or auctioning them off.”

This case isn’t the first time IU has faced malicious actions. In the past, her agency, EDAM Entertainment, revealed that they had taken legal action against 180 individuals for spreading false claims, defamation, and even distributing AI-generated deepfake materials. So far, several of these cases have resulted in fines or court-mandated education programs, but not all perpetrators have been brought to justice.

While IU has shown incredible strength in taking a stand against these harmful acts, it seems the road to true justice is still full of obstacles. Fans are now left wondering: Will IU ever get the compensation she deserves?

  • Hyun Bin Apologizes for the 'Ddongcha' Theory After 20 Years: "I Was Wrong" - Actor Clears the Air About Iconic Role

Hyun Bin is finally addressing the long-standing "ddongcha" (poop car) theory surrounding his character from My Name is Kim Sam-soon—and he's not holding back!

In an interview on the 19th with Star News, the beloved actor confessed, "I was wrong," responding to the reevaluation of his iconic role as Hyun Jin-heon from the 2005 hit drama. The "ddongcha" theory has been a subject of online debate for years, with many viewers critiquing Hyun Jin-heon’s character as overly arrogant and entitled.

Hyun Bin, who first rose to fame in My Name is Kim Sam-soon, took the time to reflect on the character that made him a household name. He shared, “I was just following the script; there were no personal opinions added to the character of Hyun Jin-heon. At that time, I knew Hyun Jin-heon was portrayed as a ‘bad boy,’ and the way it was expressed was different from today’s standards.”

With My Name is Kim Sam-soon now being re-released as part of Wavve's "New Classic" project, fans are revisiting the 2005 drama, and the character of Hyun Jin-heon is under fresh scrutiny. Director Kim Yun-cheol even admitted that the "prince on a white horse" and "bad boy" tropes that once worked in 2005 don’t quite match today's sensibilities, leading to edits in the 2024 version.

Hyun Bin humbly acknowledged his gratitude for his successful career and hit works, saying, "It’s wonderful and I am grateful to have so many hit works. I’ve been fortunate to work with amazing writers, directors, and actors. Thanks to them, I’ve received a lot of attention and love." He also shared a sense of humility, noting, “But I never know when that luck will come again."

Despite the dramatic shift in perspective on his character, Hyun Bin’s charm and dedication remain strong. Fans are eager to see him in his upcoming film Harbin (directed by Woo Min-ho), set to be released on the 24th.
