BTS’s V is facing accusations of receiving special treatment during his military service, but the Ministry of National Defense is setting the record straight.
On November 20, the Ministry responded to a complaint that raised concerns about V using his cellphone during restricted hours at his army training center. The complaint suggested that V might have been given special privileges due to his celebrity status, with some questioning if his unit allowed him to use his phone outside of the designated times.
The Ministry of National Defense clarified that the training center where V served allows trainees to use their phones for one hour on weekends and holidays. V followed the training center’s rules, borrowing a phone and using it during the afternoon, not early in the morning.
The Ministry also made it clear that there is no evidence that V’s phone use was overlooked or given special permission outside of the set hours. They added that due to privacy laws, they cannot disclose details about any specific conversations or content.
Earlier this year, Min Hee Jin mentioned V in a YouTube interview, where she talked about her conversations with him while he was in the military. She shared how V had checked in on her during a tough time, even texting her on her birthday from the military. While she praised his kindness, some netizens speculated that his early-morning birthday message, just five days after his enlistment, could be a sign of special treatment.
The Ministry's statement helps clear up these concerns, confirming that V followed all the proper guidelines during his service.
