Actress Kim Doyeon couldn't hold back her tears as she looked back on her time with Weki Meki.
On November 1, she sat down for an interview with Star News at a café in Seoul to talk about her screen debut in the film Amoeba Girls and School Ghost Stories: School Anniversary, which was released on October 6.
The movie tells a spooky story about a night of Founder's Day when school ghost tales come to life, forcing students to survive a cursed game of hide-and-seek.
In Amoeba Girls and School Ghost Stories: School Anniversary, Kim Doyeon plays Jiyeon, her first leading role in a film. As she embraces this new challenge, she reflected on her past with Weki Meki. When asked about the group's disbandment, she said, "I also have regrets. It’s unfortunate, but we all worked hard together and gave our best."
She continued, "The disbandment is unavoidable, and now we can say that each member has opened a new chapter in their lives with things they love. I don’t want to take only regret with me. Everyone has done so well. I also want to gain courage from my members and make a good fresh start."
As she spoke, Kim Doyeon’s emotions took over, and she began to cry. Explaining the reason behind her tears, she said, "I have regrets about our activities, and it makes me think about how hard we worked. I think our passion back then was beautiful."
She also shared a touching moment from the film's premiere on October 31. "All the Weki Meki and I.O.I members came. Seeing them in the audience during the stage greeting was very reassuring. "
She added, "After the movie, Yujung texted me saying, 'You're doing great; you're the best.' I’ve been feeling very motivated lately and needed that confidence, so Yujung's support really helped me," she expressed.
Weki Meki announced the end of their group activities on August 8 of this year, marking a new chapter for each member.
