BTS’s V has shown he is super popular in Japan by breaking an amazing record of 187 weeks at No. 1 in major popularity polls!
From October 21 to October 27, V took first place in the male idol category on the Japanese idol ranking site "NEHAN," marking an incredible 187 weeks at the top. He also ranked No. 1 in the "Actor Popularity Ranking" on the Korean actor ranking site "BIHAN" for 36 consecutive weeks and held the top position for 183 weeks in the "20s Korean Actor" category.
On "K-board," a site for K-culture information, V has been No. 1 for 143 weeks in the "K-Pop Idol" and "Male Artist" categories. He has also consistently held the top spot on "KPOP JUICE," a site dedicated to K-pop news.
Even while serving in the military and taking a break from activities, V remains hugely popular in Japan.
His solo album "Layover," released in LP format, debuted at No. 1 on Oricon Japan's "Daily Album Ranking" chart on September 30. It also topped both the import album sales ranking and the latest import album sales ranking on Amazon Japan. The LP sold out on August 21, just one day after pre-sales started at the "BTS Official Japan Store" and "Universal Music Japan," and it has continued to sell out even after restocking.
V made waves with his first solo album "Layover," which came out on September 8 last year. On its release day, it sold 221,491 copies, reaching No. 1 on Oricon's "Daily Album Ranking" chart. In the "Annual Ranking 2023" from Oricon, released on December 20 last year, "Layover" sold a total of 247,826 copies, landing in 16th place on the "Album Ranking." This makes it the highest-ranking album by a K-pop solo artist and the only K-pop solo album to feature in the Oricon "Bestselling K-Pop Album Top 10."
Since his debut in 2013, V has been the most searched K-pop star on Google Trends in Japan. In the first half of 2024, even during his military service, V had the highest search volume among K-pop stars, proving he is still the most popular K-pop star in Japan!
