The legal battle involving YouTuber A, the creator of the channel 'Taldeoksooyongso,' continues as BTS members V and Jungkook seek justice.
On October 25th, the Seoul Western District Court will hold the second hearing for the damages lawsuit filed by BigHit Music and BTS's V and Jungkook. The lawsuit demands 90 million KRW in compensation from YouTuber A.
Back in March, BigHit Music, along with V and Jungkook, took legal action against the YouTuber for defamation and other violations. BigHit has been firm in protecting their artists' rights, previously suing netizens who spread malicious rumors, stating, “We will continue to take strict legal action against defamation, false information, and slander. There will be no settlements or leniency.”
In June, BigHit specifically called out 'Taldeoksooyongso,' saying, "We filed a lawsuit in 2022 against the YouTuber for defamation. Even though the investigation was initially suspended, we pushed for it to resume, which led to further legal steps earlier this year."
V himself addressed the situation on Weverse after coming across a video by 'Taldeoksooyongso.' In response to a fan post, he said, “I’ll proceed with the lawsuit… they even attacked my family and friends.” V also expressed his frustration, adding, “All artists hate people like that. I’ll sue them on behalf of those who were hurt.”
During the first hearing, BigHit explained, “'Taldeoksooyongso' has spread false information and profited from defaming our artists." However, A’s side argued that their content was simply an expression of opinion, claiming, “The videos were not defamation, but public interest matters.”
Meanwhile, in a separate trial, the prosecutor recently requested a four-year prison sentence and a fine of 211.42 million KRW for YouTuber A, citing charges of defamation and insult. The prosecutor emphasized how the YouTuber damaged the reputations of V and Jungkook through false videos and malicious comments.
A has since expressed regret and read an apology letter in court, saying, "I deeply apologize for the pain I caused. I regret my actions and will live with responsibility moving forward."
BigHit Music remains firm, stating they will continue to fight to protect their artists from malicious attacks.
