Actor Yoo Seung Ho has shared his feelings after wrapping up his first theater production, Angels in America – Part One: Millennium Approaches.
On October 8, Yoo Seung Ho sat down with Newsen at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, to discuss his experiences in the play. After 25 years in the entertainment industry, he took on the challenging role and performed on stage for the past two months.
Yoo Seung Ho admitted, “I was really scared going on stage for the first time. The stage was so big, and this play wasn’t easy. I felt nervous, and that made it hard for me to eat. After the second performance, I lost my appetite completely and had to force myself to diet more.”
He shared that he lost a total of 8kg for his role, going from 64kg to 56kg. His character is an AIDS patient who experiences various symptoms, and he felt lucky that his appearance fit the character’s struggles.
Reflecting on his experience, Yoo Seung Ho said, “I didn’t think I could stand for two performances in a row. But after a week, I started to miss the excitement I felt before going on stage after Act 1, Scene 3. I can’t really explain that feeling, but if I get another chance, I’d love to do it again,” he said with a smile.
Angels in America closed on September 28 and is a powerful 200-minute play set in 1980s America. It tells the stories of marginalized people dealing with issues like race, politics, religion, and sexual orientation as they approach the new millennium.
In the play, Yoo Seung Ho played 'Prior Walter,' a gay character from a WASP family, showcasing his incredible acting transformation.
