  • Lee Dong Gun’s new Jeju cafe gets slammed by neighbors for being “rude” — Here's Why

Celebrities opening cafes in Jeju Island are facing serious complaints, and Lee Dong Gun is the latest target.

Recently, Lee Dong Gun opened a new cafe in Aewol, Jeju. He had excitedly shared, "I'm finally opening the cafe I've been preparing for a long time. I’ll work hard to make menus and service you’ll be happy with. Please support us a lot!"

His cafe quickly became popular, with photos showing long lines of people even before opening hours. On April 14, Lee Dong Gun thanked visitors, saying, "There was already a line before we opened on the first day. Thank you for waiting."

The cafe’s stylish look and cozy vibe helped it go viral, and even other celebrities talked about it, making it a hot place to visit.

But not everyone is happy. A nearby business owner, A, shared a long post online complaining about the cafe. A said,
"Lee Dong Gun’s cafe behind ours did construction until 11 PM, and we couldn’t even sleep. Even our dog Jinsoon couldn’t sleep. It feels like they're using our parking lot too. I usually promote other cafes instead of worrying about mine, but their first impression was really bad."

    Netizens had mixed reactions:

    • "Since it’s a cafe street, parking is usually shared. It’s not a big deal."
    • "At least it wasn’t illegal parking."
    • "Still, they should’ve asked permission first."
    • "Who even lives inside their cafes?"

Another nearby cafe owner, B, also shared their anger:
"There are people living here too, but they kept doing loud construction at night just to match filming schedules. They should’ve at least apologized. Even when we asked them to stop, they worked until 11 PM."

B admitted that business got better because of Lee Dong Gun's cafe, saying,
"Thanks to them, our cafe is doing just as well as during peak season. But it’s not about money. I just hate seeing rude people succeed."

B even joked about changing their cafe name to "T-ara Cafe" to tease Lee Dong Gun, since he once dated T-ara’s Jiyeon. B even posted a fake "T-ara" logo online, making some people feel they went too far.

Now, online discussions are getting heated. Some are blaming Lee Dong Gun for not being considerate to his neighbors, while others say the old cafe owners are just being too harsh on the newcomer.

Who do you think is right?
