A lawyer who once worked at Kim & Chang has spoken out against HYBE‘s approach toward NewJeans.
On September 15th, the YouTube channel Jin’s Attack on Law discussed NewJeans‘ emergency live broadcast and the legal matters surrounding Min Hee Jin‘s position at HYBE.
The lawyer shared a comment left on one of his previous videos, criticizing how HYBE treats their artists.
The comment read, “It seems more dangerous for HYBE to keep someone ungrateful around. NewJeans is just one popular product in a multi-label company. It’s better to remove the traitors and those who support them.”
In response, the lawyer explained, “It’s hard to see how HYBE can grow as a company if they see their artists as just products.”
He continued, “A lot of people think it’s natural to treat artists this way, but I believe that mindset won’t lead to long-term success.”
The lawyer also said that NewJeans‘ recent live broadcast, where they spoke about their struggles with HYBE, might have a legal impact. “They risked more than they stood to gain, which shows their sincerity. This could influence the court’s view,” he said.
Earlier, on September 11th, NewJeans held a live broadcast where they revealed feeling isolated by HYBE and demanded that Min Hee Jin, former ADOR CEO, be reinstated by September 25th.
Following this, Min Hee Jin filed for a provisional injunction on September 13th, asking to hold an emergency shareholders’ meeting and be reappointed as a director.
