“Mr. Trot” Kim Soo Chan Breaks Silence on Family Issues: “Why I No Longer Speak to My Father”

Kim Soo Chan, known for his time on “Mr. Trot,” has shared personal details about his difficult relationship with his father, following a recent episode of “Ask Us Anything” on KBS Joy.

During the September 2nd episode, a mother of a singer talked about how her ex-husband interfered with their son’s career. She explained, “After our divorce, my ex-husband came back when he saw our son singing on TV. He tried to manage him, set up schedules, and even pretended to be his agency’s head. He took out loans in our son’s name and asked fans for money.”

She continued, “When my son was having a hard time, we signed with a new agency. But my ex-husband protested in front of the agency and made things difficult. For the last eight years, he’s been spreading lies, calling our son unfilial.”

After the episode aired, Kim Soo Chan confirmed in his fan cafe that he was the singer in question. He wrote, “Ignoring the truth won’t make it go away, and I need to stop the harm my father is causing, so I’m sharing this with you. I can’t stay silent anymore. I’m sorry if this has caused any concern, but I know how much my fans have always supported me.”

He added, “Thanks to all of you, I feel like many of my wounds have healed. Your words give me the strength to be more honest and brave. I love you all.”

This revelation has led to renewed attention on Kim Soo-chan’s previous comments about his father. In May, on KBS 2TV’s “Park Won-sook’s Let’s Live Together,” he shared, “My parents divorced when I was young. I don’t have any contact with my father now. We stayed in touch for a while after their divorce, even after I started singing, but over time, we naturally drifted apart.”

Kim Soo Chan gained fame through his appearance on TV Chosun’s “Mr. Trot” in 2020 and released his album “Ma Jeong Mul Love” in May.
