BTS's Suga is making headlines again, but this time it's not for his music. Despite being involved in a DUI incident with an electric scooter, Samsung Germany is still featuring him in their social media ads, causing quite a stir online.
On August 15 and 16, Samsung Germany posted promotional photos of Suga on their official Twitter account, showcasing the 'Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.' In one post, they shared a picture of Suga holding the phone with the playful caption, "Me trying to secretly take a picture of my favorite celebrity. #SUGA @BTS_twt #GalaxyS24Ultra."
The following day, they upped the engagement by posting a poll asking fans, "Who looks best with the #GalaxyS24Ultra?" The options included BTS members RM, Jimin, and Suga, encouraging fans to vote.
These posts featuring Suga have racked up over 500,000 views, but they've also sparked debate. Many fans and netizens are questioning whether it's appropriate to feature Suga in ads right now, given his recent controversy.
As for the incident, Suga, who is currently serving as a social service agent, was caught by police on August 6 after falling off his electric scooter in Hannam-dong, Seoul. A nearby officer noticed the smell of alcohol and took him to the station. Suga's blood alcohol concentration was 0.227%, which is well above the legal limit for license revocation.
This situation escalated when it was revealed that Suga and his agency, BigHit Music, initially described the vehicle as an 'electric kickboard,' but police clarified it was an 'electric scooter,' which carries more serious legal consequences.
Additional CCTV footage shows Suga drinking with friends at a restaurant before heading to his studio and later leaving on his electric scooter around 11 p.m., just 500 meters from his home.
The ongoing debate continues as fans and the public grapple with the impact of Suga's actions on his career and endorsements.
