Singer Sunye has shared her thoughts on a potential full reunion of the Wonder Girls.
In a bnt photoshoot interview on August 8, Sunye discussed various topics.
She first talked about the musical ‘Mona’s Night,’ saying, “‘Mona’s Night’ is a jukebox dance musical based on the 90s dance hotspot, Itaewon ‘Mona’s Night.’ I’m performing with Seven, and since it’s a nationwide tour, I think we’ll get to connect closely with fans,” sharing her excitement.
Sunye praised her collaboration with Seven, noting, “Seven is great at taking care of people and creating a fun atmosphere, so it’s been enjoyable working with him.”
Expanding her career into variety shows, musicals, and jazz after focusing on singing, Sunye explained her return to activities, saying, “It wasn’t so much that I initiated the return, but rather I was fortunate to be invited. With raising three kids, I didn’t expect to be back. However, I got a great opportunity through tvN’s ‘Mom is an Idol,’ which led to consistent musical offers and my return.”
After a long time away from the stage, Sunye described feeling mixed emotions. “It was a blend of different feelings. It felt like an unexpected gift. I’m grateful to be able to enjoy work again. I feel more relaxed and mature compared to before.”
Sunye, who is continually challenging herself as a musical actress, said, “I’ve always wanted to try musicals, but I wondered if I could act. When I encountered ‘acting’ again, I accepted it more naturally than before. The more I learn, the more I find it fascinating, and I’ve started to enjoy it gradually.”
Expressing her desire to continue acting, Sunye remarked, “The charm of acting is that as you age, you can portray natural performances suited to your age. There’s a unique joy and emotional connection when interacting with the audience through the stage or screen. I hope to meet a variety of characters in the future.”
Sunye, who has recently ventured into jazz, shared that she is preparing for a performance with the jazz band Prelude. “I’ve always loved listening to jazz. There are so many different styles within jazz. I found the arranged music appealing and thought it would be fun to collaborate, so I decided to give it a try.” She added, “The performance with Prelude is just around the corner. I’m looking forward to it. I think it will be a unique show.”
Regarding the Wonder Girls, Sunye said she tries to meet with the members frequently but finds it challenging. “Each member is busy with their own work, but we always support each other and keep in touch.” She also shared her special affection for member Sohee, saying, “I recently went to see Sohee’s play ‘Closer’ in Daehangno. She’s always been interested in acting and dreamed of becoming an actress. Even though we’re often apart, seeing her performance made me emotional.”
When asked about plans for a full Wonder Girls reunion, Sunye replied, “Many people ask about it. There are no specific plans yet, but if the opportunity arises, I would love to try. It could be fun to do something like a guerilla concert.”
