Actor Yoo Seung Ho shared how he prepared for his role as an LGBTQ+ character.
On July 24, a rehearsal for the play ‘Angels in America’ took place at Green Campus, Sungshin Women's University in Seoul.
‘Angels in America,’ written by Tony Kushner and first performed in 1991, explores themes of discrimination and confusion faced by social minorities in 1980s America. Yoo Seung Ho plays Prior Walter, a character with AIDS who receives a prophecy from an angel.
Yoo Seung Ho said, “I didn’t know much about the issues in ‘Angels in America,’ so I worked with other actors and tried things like manicures and accessories. The director thought it would help us understand the gaze that minorities face in everyday life, and it was very useful.”
He added, “I know I can’t fully understand their feelings, but I’m working with senior actor Son Ho Jun to get closer to their experiences.”
The play ‘Angels in America’ will run at LG SIGNATURE Hall in LG Art Center Seoul from August 6 to September 28.
