SEVENTEEN (S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, Dino) is stepping into a new role as UNESCO Youth Friendship Ambassadors, marking a significant milestone for K-pop.
On June 26th, at 10:30 AM local time in Paris, France (5:30 PM KST), SEVENTEEN will attend the UNESCO Youth Friendship Ambassador appointment ceremony. They will receive their appointment certificates from UNESCO’s Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, and deliver a 10-minute acceptance speech. Before the ceremony, SEVENTEEN will also engage in a brief conversation with Director-General Azoulay.
UNESCO appoints individuals globally recognized in various fields as Friendship Ambassadors to promote its ideals and activities worldwide. SEVENTEEN‘s appointment is notable as they are the first K-pop artists to officially hold this title and the first appointed specifically as youth ambassadors, a priority group for UNESCO.
International media outlets have taken notice. Billboard commented, “SEVENTEEN adds new glory to their long list of achievements,” while Clash quoted Director-General Azoulay praising SEVENTEEN‘s influence on global youth through their music and positive energy.
French newspaper Le Figaro described SEVENTEEN as “one of the most popular groups in the world,” highlighting their UNESCO appointment. Paris Match noted, “Through music, SEVENTEEN has built a strong connection with their fandom CARAT,” emphasizing their rise as global stars known for authenticity and talent.
SEVENTEEN‘s UNESCO Youth Friendship Ambassador ceremony will be streamed live on UNESCO’s official YouTube channel, allowing fans and the global community to witness this historic moment.
