Trouble brews for Zico as he comes under scrutiny for a controversial racial slur in his 2010 rap track "If I Ain't Got Jjanggae".
Recent uproar ignited across various Chinese online platforms, notably Weibo, condemning Zico's 2010 release "If I Ain't Got Jjanggae," a playful rendition of Alicia Keys' hit "If I Ain't Got You," featured as a bonus track on his mixtape 'Zico on the Block'.
The song humorously narrates Zico's trainee days, lamenting his monotonous diet of Chinese cuisine.
However, Chinese netizens have taken offense to specific lyrics such as, "I hate jjanggae. I'm full again today, but I'm not full at all. I feel bloated… I'm going to become Chinese," alongside his use of "jjanggae," deemed derogatory towards Chinese individuals.
Following the backlash, Zico's social media platforms have been inundated with vomiting emojis and disparaging remarks seemingly from Chinese netizens.
On a brighter note, amidst the controversy, Zico recently marked his decade-long journey as a solo artist, celebrating with the release of his digital single "SPOT!" featuring BLACKPINK's Jennie, a track that swiftly dominated both local and global music charts.
