The K-pop girl group NewJeans is currently in hot water, facing allegations of imitating the iconic '90s Mexican girl group, Jeans.
El Siglo, a Mexican newspaper, reported earlier this year that there are striking resemblances between the two groups, hinting that NewJeans might have taken cues from Jeans.
The report underscores the similarities in the fashion and hairdos of both groups. It suggests that NewJeans, a fresh face in the K-pop industry, could have been inspired by Jeans, a group that was hugely popular in Mexico during the '90s.

El Siglo pointed out that the similarities extend beyond just the group names. Even the promotional images seem to mirror each other, sparking debates among fans on social media platforms like Meta, formerly known as Facebook.
Jeans, which made its debut in 1995 and was active until 2008, made a comeback in 2015 and now performs under the name JNS. The resemblance between the two groups has also been a hot topic in local online communities, where users have observed similarities in dance moves and visual themes.
This controversy comes on the heels of previous accusations by Min Hee Jin, a representative from HYBE.
She claimed that another newbie girl group, ILLIT, had replicated the outfits and hairstyles of NewJeans.
This points to a recurring pattern of issues surrounding originality and influence in pop group styling.
