In a surprising turn of events, the classmate who blew the whistle on actor Nam Joo Hyuk's alleged school bullying has been slapped with a fine for defamation. But they're not taking it lying down - they're appealing for a full trial.
On April 8, the whistleblower's lawyer, No Jong Eon from Law Firm Existence, told NewsEn, "We've asked for a full trial at the Uijeongbu District Court, Goyang Branch."
Lawyer No explained, "There are two charges. First, it's claimed that the whistleblower spread false rumors that they were bullied by Nam Joo Hyuk and his friends. But the whistleblower actually reported being bullied by Nam Joo Hyuk's friends, not Nam Joo Hyuk himself. We're gathering evidence on this."
He added, "Secondly, the whistleblower saw a different friend being bullied by Nam Joo Hyuk. There's even someone who was interviewed as a victim of Nam Joo Hyuk's bullying. We're planning to call these people as witnesses to find out the truth."
The whistleblower reported the bullying by Nam Joo Hyuk's friends to a reporter in 2022. However, it's claimed that the reporter published an article saying the whistleblower was bullied by Nam Joo Hyuk.
When the rumors of Nam Joo Hyuk's school bullying first surfaced, his agency Management Forest strongly denied them and said, "We will hold those responsible for seriously damaging the actor's reputation with false reports," and took legal action. As a result, the Goyang Court fined the whistleblower and the reporter 7 million won each last month.
In other news, Nam Joo Hyuk enlisted in the army last March and is currently serving in the Military Police.
