People in South Korea have been shocked by the news that star Kang Kyung Joon is being sued for having an affair with a married woman.
His wife, Jang Shin Young, got a lot of comments on her Instagram account after the event telling her to forgive him for the sake of their two kids.
People told Jang things like, "Think about your two kids," "Every couple goes through crises; getting through them makes for a happy family," "Hoping you both get through this and get back together," and "Please trust him one more time."
That being said, a big part of the online community in South Korea didn't like these well-meaning comments and was angry and frustrated with those who asked people to forgive:
"Being calm for her won't help, so just sit there."
"People are already pleading for forgiveness, and she hasn't even filed for divorce yet."
"Why are they telling her that?"
I love my family, and I can't stand this."
"It looks like a lot of people are crazy about men."
"These might be people who can't get divorced and think everyone should live like them."
"Why should someone forgive their cheating spouse?"
"I've been through something similar and felt unbearable pain."
My screams kept me up all night, and I even tried to calm down.
As a public person, Shin Young must be having even more trouble.
"Don't try to understand or forgive other people.
"She is now what's important."
"Why do people always say that women should look out for their families?"
"I hope she doesn't change her mind; she hasn't done anything wrong."
The event has caused a heated discussion on social media, showing the range of feelings and points of view connected to cheating, forgiving, and the societal expectations put on people who are having problems in their marriages.
