Jessi recently confessed that she had reached a point in her career where she was on the verge of giving up.
After struggling for a decade without much success, she was feeling defeated. However, everything changed when she uttered a phrase during her appearance on 'Unpretty Rap Star.'
During a guest appearance on the YouTube talk show 'The Psick Show' on November 5, Jessi opened up about her journey in the Korean music industry.
She revealed that when she was first cast for 'Unpretty Rap Star,' she was actually considering giving up her career in the Korean music industry and returning to the States.
She explained, "Many people might not know this, but when I decided to be on 'Unpretty Rap Star,' it was when I was about to give up."
Jessi then shared an interesting encounter she had with the show's producers and directors. She initially didn't want to participate in 'Unpretty Rap Star' because she thought the title implied that the contestants were ugly.
She didn't want to compete under that concept. However, the producers convinced her otherwise. Continuing her conversation on 'The Psick Show,' Jessi expressed her aversion to competing with others.
She preferred to focus on bettering herself rather than comparing herself to others. However, at that particular time, the producers convinced her that they needed her involvement in the show. Jessi had already decided to give up and was planning to go back to the United States. But with the show's offer, she changed her mind.
Confessing her initial thoughts on 'Unpretty Rap Star,' Jessi admitted, "I thought that show was going to flop. I thought it was going to fail, so I decided, 'You know, I'll just do whatever.' That's the mindset I went on the show with." Little did she know that this decision would be the turning point in her career. It was the phrase, "This is a competition!" that ended up catapulting Jessi to stardom.
She revealed, "What in the world, I did everything for 10 years, but I got big because of that one phrase. So, I realized that there is the right timing for people."
This experience taught her the importance of timing and seizing the right opportunities. Reflecting on her journey, Jessi shared that humility played a crucial role in her success.
She realized that success in the music industry is not guaranteed and can be fleeting. "I thought it was because I was talented, but when I see these competitions, it's not going to last forever.
At one moment, you do well, but then you plummet." This understanding made her stay grounded and humble throughout her career.
Jessi's interview shed light on a pivotal moment in her life that changed the trajectory of her career.
Despite considering giving up, she took a chance on 'Unpretty Rap Star' and emerged as a star. This story serves as a reminder that success often comes from unexpected places and that timing and perseverance are key factors in achieving one's goals.
