• NCT's Taeyong is Praised by Korean Netizens but Criticized by Japanese Followers for an "insensitive" Instagram Post

    "I love patriotic idols."

Japanese fans attack NCT's Taeyong for an Instagram post, but Korean netizens appreciate him for the same post.

The NCT member recently posted a map of Korea to his Instagram story. The map is from an exhibition held at El Museo Del Oro in Colombia (also known as Gold Museum).

Korea and its territories are marked on the map. When Japanese netizens noticed that the island of Dokdo was highlighted as Korean territory, controversy ensued.

The island of Dokdo, also known as Takeshima in Japan, is contested by both Korea and Japan and has been a source of tension between the two countries for decades.

Japanese fans allegedly criticized and accused the NCT member of being anti-Japanese.

"Takeshima (Dokdo) is colored in the same way as the rest of Korea's land. Are all Korean pop stars against Japan?"

” After hearing Taeyong's Takshima (Dokdo) story, I was reminded that SM has been accused of being anti-Japanese more than any other label. It's best to know that the label is anti-Japanese and not expect anything from them."

"Let's say he wears the "Comfort Women" bracelet as an accessory, but he should think twice before calling Takeshima (Dokdo) Korean on a platform that people all over the world can see."

Korean netizens had a very different reaction to the posts, which makes sense.

    "I love patriotic idols."
"Wow, people like him even more now."
    "He did really well."
"It's so funny to see how upset they get."
Taeyong? I'll keep his name in mind."
"This might be obvious to Koreans, but it's really cool for an idol to do this considering how important fame and the Japanese market are to him."
"Even though it's obvious, it's really cool for an overseas idol to do this."
