NewJeans’ Hanni Wouldn’t Have Become An Idol — If It Hadn’t Been For This Western Boy Band

Recently, NewJeans went on Yoo Jae Suk‘s reality show “You Quiz On The Block” to perform their singles “Hype Boy” and “Attention” and talk about how their group got started.

The members of NewJeans took turns telling how they came to be a part of the group. Minji was picked because she was so popular even as a student.

Hanni joined through a global audition, Hyein was a child model, and Danielle had been on the South Korean TV show “Rainbow Kindergarten” when she was young.

The girls also talked about why they wanted to be singers. Haerin said that she wanted her true feelings to come through in her music, and Hanni said that her dream started because her mother liked boy bands a lot.

Hanni‘s mother listened to the famous band “Backstreet Boys” when Hanni was growing up in Australia. This made Hanni want to be a singer.

Yoo Jae Suk noticed the group right away and said that he was also a huge fan of them. When Hanni spoke English with a strong Australian accent, everyone fell in love with her.

They even asked Danielle, who grew up in Australia like them, to say “Backstreet Boys” again so they could hear it again.

You can see the whole video below. At the 0:41 mark, Hanni talks about how the Backstreet Boys gave her the idea to become a singer.
