10 Highest Rating Cable Television Korean Dramas in 2021

tvN is still an unrivaled broadcaster in the rating battle.

Mr. Queen, 17.371%

In the first place is Mr. Queen starring Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun, which began airing on tvN from December 12, 2020 to February 14, 2021. 

The film tells the tragic yet humorous soul-swapping story between the 21st century chef Jang Bong Hwan (Choi Jin Hyuk) and the queen Kim So Young (Shin Hye Sun).

Shin Hye Sun (“Still 17”, “The Hymn of Death”, “Angel’s Last Mission: Love”) and Kim Jung Hyun (“School 2017”, “Welcome to Waikiki”, “Time”, “Crash Landing On You”) are the leads of this drama. They both proved their excellent acting skills. Many are looking forward to their chemistry.

The PD Yoon Seong Sik worked on “Bridal Mask”, “The King’s Face”, “Babel”, and “Hwarang” and the writer Park Kye Ok on “Doctor Prisoner“.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 2, 16.582%

In second place is the drama Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 2 aired on TV Chosun Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) 2 is a South Korean television series starring Sung Hoon, Lee Tae Gon,

Park Joo Mi, Lee Ga Ryeong, Lee Min Young, Jeon Soo Kyeong and Jeon No Min. The series tells the story of three married couples, each in their 30s, 40s and 50s.

Vincenzo, 14.636%

The drama starring Song Joong Ki, Jeon Yeo Bin and Ok Taec Yeon ranks 3rd on this list. 

The film tells the story of a Korean boy who was adopted and raised in Italy from the age of 8, later grows up to become a lawyer for a mafia group and returns to Korea to carry out his great plan.

The writer in charge is Park Jae Bom who previously worked on the dramas “The Fiery Priest“, “Manager Kim“, and “Good Doctor“.

Hospital Playlist 2, 14.080%

4th place belongs to the Korean national drama series in 2021 called Hospital Playlist 2, with the highest rating of 14,080%.

The drama is about the friendly relationship between five doctors working at the same hospital.

PD Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung previously worked together on the popular “Reply” series and “Prison Playbook“.

Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, 12.665%

Another tvN drama on this list.  Starring Shin Min Ah and Kim Seon Ho, the film revolves around the simple lives of the people in the fishing village of Gongjin, where the male lead chooses to hide the secrets of his life.

Yoo Je Won, the director (“Hi Bye, Mama”, “Abyss”) and Shin Ha Eun, the writer (“The Crowned Clown”, “Drama Stage: Anthology”) are in charge.

The drama is a healing romance set in the seaside village, and is rated 15+. 

The Uncanny Counter, 10.999%

This is the only OCN drama on this list which is also the station’s pride in recent years. 

Starring Jo Byung Gyu, Yoo Jun Sang, Kim Se Jeong, and Yeom Hye Ran, the drama tells the story of a group of people with special powers, tasked with hunting ghosts, and they disguise themselves as staff at a noodle restaurant.

Jirisan, 10.663%

Not as successful as expected despite the presence of two popular stars, Jeon Ji Hyun and Joo Ji Hoon, the highest rating of Jirisan still reached 10.663%. 

The drama tells the stories of mysterious deaths in the Jiri mountains, where the rescue team works together to rescue the people and find the truth.

Actors Sung Dong Il (“Ms. Hammurabi”, “Sisyphus: The Myth”, “Live”), Oh Jung Se (“Touch Your Heart”, “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”, and the upcoming drama “Uncle”), and Go Min Si (“72 SECONDS”, “Age of Youth 2”, “The Witch: Part 1”, The Subversion”, “Live”, “Love Alarm”, “Sweet Home”, “Youth Of May”) will also be appearing in the drama.

Mine, 10.512%

In eighth place is Mine, airing on tvN, starring Lee Bo Young, Kim Seo Hyung, Cha Hak Yeon, and Park Hyuk Kwon

The film tells about the life of a chaebol family, where the women embark on a journey to find true happiness and their own self.

The drama “Mine” is awaited by many because the cast is centered around strong and ambitious women.

Bossam, Steal the Fate, 9.759%

This is the only MBN drama to enter this list, and it’s more remarkable that MBN is just a local station that doesn’t get much attention, so you know how influential Bossam: Steal the Fate is

The drama tells about the eventful, wandering life of Princess Soo Kyung (Kwon Yuri), who is mistakenly kidnapped. 

Bossam: Steal the Fate was the procedure of kidnapping (willing or unwillingly) widows for remarriage. At that time widows could not remarry.

Because they became a burden to their family, some were pushed to take their lives. This drama will touch on the oppression of women at that time.

Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce), 9.656%

While the second part of the series comes in at No.2 on this chart, the first part of Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) comes in at the 10th place with a quite impressive number. 

Following the success of the first two parts, part 3 of this series will be released in early 2022.
